Court on fast track, witnesses examined : Ratanmala rape and murder case

Sessions Court, Manipur East today examined the statements of the elder sister and mother during the trial of RK Ratanmala rape and murder case today.
Prosecution Witness Number 2 RK Renika, elder sister of the victim and Prosecution Witness Number 3 RK Ngangbi, mother of the victim deposed before the Court.
Statements of both the witnesses were cross examined by the defence counsel during today's hearing.
Accused Soibam Dhanabir s/o S Tomba of Ningombam Mayai Leikai, who is currently on bail, was present during the Court proceedings.
After recording the statements of the witnesses, the Court fixed November 24 as the next date of hearing.
Victim's elder brother had deposed before the Court on August 14 last.
It may be mentioned that the trial of the case began on February 24, 2014 under FIR number 29(1) 2010 of Singjamei police station under Section 302 and 102 IPC, four and a half year after the incident happened.
Some months back, police framed charges against the accused under Section 302 and 102 IPC.
RK Ratanmala d/o RK Ruhini of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai was found dead at Langthabal Phura Makhong Poila Loukol on January 30, 2010 with her phanek lifted up to her waist.
Her sweater and inner wear were found removed.
Apart from strangulation marks, bruises, suspected to be created by some hard object, were also found on her head.
Straws were also found scattered in and around the area where the dead body was found.
Lungnila Elizabeth case.
An independent witness, submitted by CBI, deposed before the District and Sessions Court, Manipur West in the Lungnila Elizabeth kidnapping and murder case today.
Main accused James Kuki and Th Nando, who are currently lodged in Sajiwa Central Jail, also appeared before the Court during the trial of the 10-year-old case.
Later, the Court fixed November 18 as the next date for hearing.
It may be mentioned that Lungnila Elizabeth, daughter of the then RD & PR Minister Francis Ngajokpa, was found dead on November 12, 2003 at Sadokpam in Imphal West district after the girl was kidnapped from near the gate of Little Flower School on November 4, 2003 .
Prof Islamuddin murder case.
Sessions Court, Manipur East today examined the statement of GEPD forensic science expert during the hearing of Prof Md Islamuddin murder case.
Out of the 53 prosecution witnesses, submitted by CBI, 48 witnesses have been examined till date.
During today's trial, GEPD forensic science expert E Sai Prasad was partly examined by the Court.
He will be further examined on November 28.Accused persons of the case, who are currently on bail, were also present in the Court during the hearing.
CBI submitted charge sheets to the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate against the four accused on August 2, 2010 .
Prof Md Islamuddin, then Proctor of Manipur University and former Dean of Students' Welfare, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in broad daylight inside the university campus on May 25, 2009 .
