DSSS, TEAM-VOICE-in-Crisis distribute relief materials

Imphal, September 21 2015:
Diocesan Social Service Society (DSSS) in partnership with TEAM- VOICE-in-Crisis, with a lion share of the contribution from major organizations like GOONJ and Caritas India, few other organizations and individuals have joined hands together to reach out to the 33 flood and landslide affected villages, with a population of approximately more than 5000 in Chandel district, a few in Thoubal and Churachandpur districts.
In a press note, Fr Mung, the Assistant Director of DSSS, Imphal said in spite of the pros and con and risk involved, the latest distribution was carried out in Dingpi area of Hollenjang, Changjal, S Bonjoy, Toitung, P Chehjang, Tuijang, Saibawl Joupi and Wayang villages in Khenjoy sub-division and a few materials in Chakpikarong and Sajiktampak areas from September 17 to 19 .
The relief materials provided to the villagers were rice, tarpaulin sets, dal, sugar, life straw, solar lights, torches and batteries, sanitary napkins, toothpastes, tealeaves, blankets, salt, cookers, buckets, mugs, mosquito nets, biscuits, etc.
The relief team was informed that in Dingpi area, three women had sufered miscarriages and two youths died due to illnesses after the landslide affected their villages.
Roads leading to these villages are cut-off and are beyond repair.
There are no proper drinking facilities as rivulets and streams are also filled with mud.
Many villages have to abandon their villages and camp themselves in the jungle.
DSSS expressed its gratitude to VOICE-in-Crisis, the main mobilizer, GOONJ and Caritas India, the major contributors, all medical team, volunteers and all those who have extended their services and support to the flood and landslide victims.
