Senapati, June 28 2014 :
One of the oldest State Highways leading to Ukhrul from Tadubi via Chingmai, Phaibung and Tolloi Villages (UTC road) is in a pathetic condition due to Government apathy.
It may be mentioned that soon after its dedication to the public in 1960-61, the road started serving as a lifeline to the people.
The road was once repaired at some areas to make it motorable during the time of the then PWD Senapati Division Executive Engineer Gunindro.
However, since then, nobody has looked into the needs of the road till date.
According to a villager, the Government has been neglecting the road since the past 10 years.
Saying that lanslides had occurred on many occasions, villagers said that the condition of the road is so bad that vehicular movement is not possible during monsoon season.

Although, villagers have put in maximum efforts to revamp the 12-km long road, it was not possible to make it motorable without the initiatives from the Government.
Even pedestrians find it hard to travel on the road during rainy season due to knee-deep mud though the road is taken as cheaper and shorter route to reach Imphal whenever there is an emergency.
As such, locals have started pondering on what step would be better to let the Government hear their grievances as the State Government has turned a deaf ear to their repeated pleas.
They also said that they could not call a bandh to register their demand like people residing near NH-2 and NH-37 .
