Ameising Luikham chairs meet for NE people

Following the recommendations of the Bezbaruah Committee, the Secretary of DoNER Ministry, Ameising Luikham met some Delhi social workers from the North East and nodal officers of the North East States and discussed the need for people friendly transparent schemes and plans for the North East people at his conference hall at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi today.
This was the first time that such a meeting was held.
During the meeting Luikham briefly informed what the DoNER Plans are for the North East people and informed them about the ongoing schemes and future action plan for development of North East States.
After brainstorming sessions and feedbacks from participants, wherein all members gave him their suggestions and opinions, some initiatives have been decided for the North East youth in the cities of the country, said a statement issued by Robin Hibu (IPS), nodal officer for North East People, Delhi.

The suggestions included , the DoNER Ministry agreed in principle for funding one whole floor (1000 square metres) for the proposed Delhi Police Special Unit building at Nanakpura, New Delhi for counselling/assistance of North East crime victims at Delhi.
It was also agreed to explore the avenues for sponsoring/ funding of NGOs in consultation with Delhi Police for counselling victims of crimes of North East at the Special Police Unit for North East People at Nanakpura, Delhi.
To carry out empirical survey/ research on the problems faced by North East people at Delhi by outsourcing it to reputed Universities/Companies.
It was also agreed in principle for funding and locating of land for North East Centre at Delhi on the pattern of India Habitat Centre at Delhi, which will be activities centre having provisions for auditorium, business information centre, North East tourism information hub, culture centre, research And museum, empowerment and employment information centre, open air threatre centre, exhibition hall having an ambience of cultural and heritage ethos of the North East States.
Exploration for having emergency contigency fund at Delhi to help emergency situations like dead body disposals, for .
modalities are to be worked out was another point agreed.
To have monthly meeting with representatives of all NGOs from all 8 North Eastern States for brainstorming and interactive session at Delhi.
DoNER Ministry to review the effectiveness and emerging requirement of already constructed hostels at Jasola, Delhi University, JNU etc.
To start exploration for further skills development of North East youth living at cities in consultation with Ministry of Skill Development to avoid duplication etc, which include coaching for North East youth for competive examinations like UPSC, medical, engineering, management etc.
DoNER Ministry is also taking steps to implement reccomendations of Bezbaruah Committee for addressing problems faced by North East people at cities in a phase manner.
Participants also suggested for carrying out impact analysis of all schemes implemented so far by DoNER by an independent and reputated third party non governmental companies like Tata Consultancy Services etc, which will do analysis of all schemes, whether all have met the parameters set out at grass root level for common people and would suggest DoNER new and pragmatic strategies keeping in view of area specific, qualitative, interest of common men as top most priority and also to have proper check and balance etc.
