India urges Myanmar to open visa on arrival facility at Tamu

With the process of installing necessary infrastructure to provide visa on arrival facility to Myanmar Nationals desirous of visiting Manipur and India for medical and other purposes now almost complete, the Government of India has asked the Myanmar Government to take up corresponding measures of opening visa on arrival facility at Tamu for Indians particularly Manipuris wishing to visit the neighbouring country.
Installation of necessary infrastructure for opening a visa on arrival facility at Moreh is now almost complete, informed an official source.
It is now awaiting due notification of the External Affairs Ministry before it is made operational.

Once the due notification is issued, Myanmar Nationals can avail the benefit of visa on arrival facility for visiting Manipur and other parts of India.
Computer sets equipped with internet connections have been installed at the Customs Office, near Moreh Gate No 1 .
A considerable number of Myanmar Nationals have been regularly coming to Manipur for medical examination and treatment.
But a large number of Myanmar Nationals are barred from entering Manipur as they do not possess requisite travel documents.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs has written to the Government of Myanmar to open a similar visa on arrival facility at Tamu town for Indians wishing to visit Myanmar.
However, the Ministry is yet to receive any response from the Myanmar Government so far.
Notably, bilateral trade is being carried out between Moreh and Tamu in 61 items as agreed to by the two neighbouring countries.
