NPP, CPI join hands for LS polls

Imphal, April 04 2019: In an interesting turn of events when the election in Outer Manipur PC is just a week away, the National People's Party (NPP), Manipur State unit has tied up with the Communist Party of India (CPI) .

As a show of alliance between the two parties, former CPI candidate who contested from Wangjing-Tentha AC Haobam Roben Singh took part in an election campaign of NPP Outer Manipur PC candidate Thangminlien Kipgen held at Tekcham High School ground, Khongjom today.

Addressing the gathering at the election campaign, Health & Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar said that though NPP is a regional party which is fighting for the common cause and welfare of the people of North East, has very less funds as compared to other political parties, it has the power and capability to listen to the voice of the people of the North East and work for its common cause which other parties like Congress, BJP or NPF lacks.

Expressing fear over adverse impacts upon the people of the North East if the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) is passed by the BJP Government in case it is re-elected, L Jayantakumar said that it is a real fact that North East is a soft target when it comes to CAB.

"Once the Act is passed, it would be rather impossible to amend it", he warned.

The BJP has clearly said that it will bring back CAB in case it comes back to power which is much against the wishes of the people of North East.

As such, it would be a great blunder to vote for the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, he said while adding "We are here not to fight against the BJP or the Congress but to send a clear message to Delhi on behalf of the people of NE" .

He also said that the party is going together with the CPI.

NPP will support CPI candidate Dr M Nara in the Inner Manipur PC while CPI will support Thangminlien Kipgen in Outer Manipur PC.

Maintaining that the voice of the people is the voice of God and that people's judgment is the best judgment, L Jayantakumar said that now everything lies in the hands of the people and it is obvious that people would not vote for Congress whose candidate is a fraud who swindled huge bank loans and who is not a worker of the people.

Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar taking part in the election campaign said that the upcoming election is a crucial one as every elected MP will count in the formation of Government at the Centre.

"We are not sure who will rule at the Centre but we should make sure that neither the BJP nor the Congress gets elected form the State because if it happens, the issue of greater Nagaland, CAB and many others will surface and there will be chaos in the society", he said and added "Therefore we need to stop this and vote for NPP candidate Thangminlien" .

NPP State vice president Sushil Huidrom who was also present during the campaign said that it was the BJP that brought CAB and the June 18 incident.

During the long rule of Congress in the State, they presented the people with the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) .

Enquiring as to why AFSPA has not been implemented in the Naxalite affected areas and restricted only in the North East, Sushil further stated that both the BJP and Congress do not care about small States with very less MPs and take no interest for these States.

Therefore, it is time, people of the North East in general and Manipur in particular cast their valuable votes for NPP which is a party primarily set up for the cause of the North East and articulate a common voice.

The election campaign was also attended by NPP candidate Thangminlien Kipgen, former MP Kim Gangte, NPP State general secretary Th Loken, Tekcham GP former Pradhan L Meino Singh and other party members.
