Last rites of SM Manjur Ahamad performed; NEIDP seeks justice for constable

Last rites of SM Manjur Ahamed, a Manipur Police Constable, who died in police custody on March 30 during interrogation at Joint Interrogation Cell (JIC), was performed at his native place at Yairipok Ningthounai, Imphal East where members of different CSOs and public turned up in large numbers to attend and pay respect to the deceased constable today.
The body of SM Manjur Ahamad was brought from JNIMS morgue today by the JAC and the public to Idgha Lampak at Yairipok Ningthounai Kangjeibung and performed the last rites.
Speaking to the media persons, on the sideline of the ceremony, president AMMOCOC SM Jalal Sheikh said that the last rites of police constable (L) Manjur Ahamed, who died due to police atrocity on March 30 at Joint Interrogation Cell (JIC), was performed today at his native place.
He continued that the decision to perform the last rites was taken after the State Govt agreed to rope in independent agency like CBI or NIA to handle the case.
Jalal Sheikh expressed gratitude to the public of Manipur both from the valley and hill area, different Civil Society Organisations, students group outside Manipur, women organizations, human rights groups, journalists etc, for extending their solidarity and raising their voices against the inhuman act of the police and for speedy delivery of justice for SM Manjur Ahamad.
He further sought continued support and solidarity from all the concerned persons, to wipe out such act of extra judicial killings, inhuman and barbaric act once and all from Manipur to bring a society that respect humanity, peace and love for all.
Meanwhile, RK Anand said that North East India Development Party (NEIDP) will extend full support in getting justice to (L) SM Manjur Ahamed, a native of Yairipok Ningthounai, Imphal East, who died in police custody while interrogating at Joint Interrogation Cell.
The NEIDP candidate, who will contest in the ensuing 17th Lok Sabha election, said this statement while attending the last rites of (L) SM Manjur Ahamad today.
Speaking to the media persons, RK Anand condemned the custodial death of the police (suspended) constable of Manipur Police Department, who was pulled up and interrogated in connection with the fleeing of Th Nando, Commander KCP (Nando) Group, from JNIMS hospital and questioned the brutality and torture of police interrogation that led to the death of the constable.
Saying that NEIDP will extend all possible assistance to find out the truth in the death of the SM Manjur Ahamed, RK Anand expressed that custodial death is a heinous crime against humanity.
Endorsing the demand of the JAC against the custodial killing of SM Manjur Ahamad to hand over the investigation to an independent agency, he maintained that the incident reflects the lapse of security arrangement and weakness of present Govt.His (RK Anand) visit to the native place of (L) SM Manjur Ahamad today was accompanied by members of NEIDP Central Working Committee (CWC); Dr Dhanabir Laishram, Advisor, W Khelindra GS, Y Brojendro GS and NEIDP Manipur State Vice-presidents Y Nabachandra and N Diten.
