Border area villages sealed under prohibitory order

Ukhrul, April 04 2019:
District Magistrate, Ukhrul Dr Harmit Singh Pahuja clamped 144 CrPc within 500 metres range along the Myanmar border areas of Ukhrul and Kamjong district with immediate effect.
Prohibitory order was clamped to ensure peaceful election in the border region.
According to a source, it has came to light that some unlawful insurgency group or armed militants having their based camp inside the Myanmar bordering to Ukhrul and Kamjong districts were reported of their frequent movement to hinder the parliamentary election of the country.
As per the source, the underground groups are likely to indulge in violent activities so as to disturb the ensuing parliamentary election, even to the extent of ambush or planting IEDs to the polling party or security forces during the polling process at their respective polling station.
The District Magistrate as a part of precautionary measures and for the safety of the voters and ensuring peaceful polling in the village area, promulgated 144 CrPc prohibiting movements of any person(s) within 500 metres along the Myanmar border until the completion of election process.
The prohibitory order is not applicable to security personnel or Govt functionaries involved in the enforcement of law and order and election process.
