Imphal, June 28, 2010:
After minutely discussing the personal threats issued to the spokesman of the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union A Mobi by the Lanheiba group of the KCP (MC) during a meeting of the scribes held at the Manipur Press Club yesterday at 4 pm, AMWJU has adopted six resolutions.
In the first place, AMWJU acknowledged the withdrawal of the capital punishment threat issued against A Mobi by the outfit.
It was also decided that the proposal to meet and talk things over to settle issues between AMWJU and the outfit including A Mobi will be held when the time and the venue is amenable to the scribes.
The scribes' body also decided that the condition laid down to show the strength of the other party, does not involve them at all and added that AMWJU has no business or jurisdiction to pass judgement, in the internal crisis of any group.
Therefore, the AMWJU decided that the press releases of both the Lanheiba group as well as Chingkheinganba will be accepted according to their news value.
Following the withdrawal of the death threat on A Mobi, AMWJU decided to call off its two days protest and resume duty from June 28.AMWJU has also acknowledged the solidarity shown by the Hill Journalists Union by suspending publications and staging sit-in-demonstrations.
The Ukhrul District Journalist Association (UDJA) has also strongly condemned the continuous threats and diktats served to media houses and some of the office-bearers of AMWJU by various UG groups, reports our Ukhrul correspondent.
While terming such incidents as unfortunate, UDJA said that the latest threat on the life of AMWJU spokesperson A Mobi should be taken as a threat to all the journalists working in Manipur.
Stating that closing down media houses is not the solution to such threats, UDJA also appealed to all UG groups to understand the difficulties being faced by the journalists in Manipur.
