With a call for collective participation in combating the menace, the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed in different parts of the State on June 26. All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) observed the event along with presenting its 4th Annual Excellent Award 'The Marvel- Athouba-2010' to reporter of ISTV Khagembam James during a function at Lilong Haoreibi College hall.
The award has been presented to James in recognition of his contribute towards creating awareness among the masses on the harmful impact of drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the society.
The award carries a cash reward of Rs 7000, a memento and a certifcate.
Education Minister L Jayantakumar and AMADA president M Padma Leima were respectively chief guest and president of the function which was also attended Chairperson of Imphal Municipal Council M Ranisana; Superintendent of Narcotic Control Bureau, Regional Unit, Imphal RK Ibungosana; Theatre Director Birjit Ngangomba and Retired Account Officer Md Islauddin Shah as guests of honour.
AMADA local council president Kh Liyaquat Ali was also present at the occasion as a special invitee.
The Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur also observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on the theme of 'Think health - Not drugs' at Khuman Lampak Sports complex on June 26. The programme was inaugurated by at 10 am by Director of Youth Affairs and Sports Bobby Waikhom as chief guest, Joint Director of Youth Affairs and Sports Kh Pramoda Devi as functional president and Director of RRTC (NE-I) Padmashree Dr A Jayanta as guest of honour.
The programme was participated by around 100 youths representing different village youth centres of YAS Department.
42 Assam Rifles observed International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking by organising a series of lectures and awareness programmes.
All the schools and colleges of Chandel district headquarters were selected as prime targets to dissuade from drug abuse, said a press release of PRO Hqs IGAR (S).
The programme covered around 700-800 persons.
Pamphlets were distributed and banners were placed at prominent places to spread awareness.
15 Assam Rifles also organised a seminar at Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School, Thoubal on June 26. 39 Assam Rifles conducted a blood donation camp at JN Hospital in connection with the day.
