Census operations in the state received obstructions when enumerators were prevented from carrying out their duties in some villages in Ukhrul district.
Meanwhile, a district based students body in Churachandpur also resolved to boycott in carrying out the exercise in some areas of the district.
The first phase of Census exercise 2011 in respect of Manipur began from June 1 last received obstructions in some villages in Ukhrul district when enumerators lodged complaints with the police of preventing them by the village chiefs and villagers in collecting information required by them.
An enumerator deputed at Nambasi Hortai village of the Ukhrul district lodged complaint with the police that he was forced to come back from the village before carrying out his duty on June 20 last.
He lodged complaint with the police only yesterday as the village is very far away from nearest police station at Yairipok.
Enumerator, Maisnam Jadumani in his report said that the chief of the village, Nambasi Hortai village and his men prevented him from discharging his duty as enumerator of the Census on June 20. Jadumani�s case is not the first one obstructing villagers in the census operation.
Earlier also, chief of another village of the same village had turned out an enumerator deputed in the district disallowing him to carry out the exercise in their village on June 16 last.
On the other hand, objections in the census exercise is also likely to come up in Churachandpur district from Churachandpur District Students� Union (CDSU) and Zomi Human Rights Federation (ZHRF) who rejected the census operations in some part of the district bordering with Bishnupur district.
The decision was taken in a joint meeting of the two bodies convened today at a community hall in the district headquarters in which chiefs of various villages, leaders of civil societies, social workers etc.
took part.
The meeting thoroughly discussed alleged inclusion some areas of Henglep sub-division, Saikhul Tribal Development and Tipaimukh sub-division of Churachandpur in Bishnupur and Imphal east district and resolved oppose carrying out exercise in these areas.
They alleged that some villages within the three sub-divisions of Churachandpur district have been put within the Bishnupur and Imphal east districts in the exercise of the census in the state.
The first phase of Census exercise 2011 was began in Manipur from June 1 last from the Imphal Raj Bhavan and followed by Chief Minister�s Bungalow with the message for people cooperation from the Governor and Raj Bhavan.
The first phase which will continue till July, 5664 enumerators, 1021 supervisors, 40 officer in-charge and 172 master trainers are utilizing.
Apart from directing DCs of all districts to supervise the enumerators to check from doubling in the house listing, counting of headset during the census operations, Manipur government has also formed a committee to check overlapping in the operations.
