A 25-year old maiden who was missing since June 18 has been found dead in Imphal river bed.
Aseibam Rajeshori alias Inao Devi, d/o Jugeshwar of Andro Chingol Leikai, Imphal East district reportedly left home to buy some garments from Yairipok Bazar in the morning of June 18, said a police source.
As she failed to come back, a missing report was filed at Yairipok police station.
Subsequently, both police and family members launched a search for Rajeshori though without any success.
In the meantime, Rajeshori was found dead in Imphal river bed near Chongtham Kona Litan Makhong in Imphal West district at about 9 am yesterday.
With the water level of Imphal river receding, the corpse of Rajeshori was found dumped inside a sack in a thicket over the river bank.
The corpse has already started decomposing with the scalp devoid of any hair.
It was suspected that Rajeshori who was three months pregnant might have been strangulated to death.
On June 26, before Rajeshori was found dead, Thoubal district police acting on the missing report pulled up one Irom Chaoren (24) s/o Bira of Thoubal Leishangthem Khong Manung.
It is said that Chaoren and Rajeshori had a love affair.
On the other hand, accusing Chaoren for the murder of Rajeshori, local people of Thoubal Leishangthem dismantled Chaoren's house last morning.
As the local people were dismantling the house, a large group of people from Andro came to Leishangthem but they were blocked by Thoubal district police at Ningombam.
Before dismantling the house of Chaoren, a public meeting was held at Leishangthem Bazar community hall.
The meeting resolved to banish Chaoren and his family from the locality.
Incidentally, Rajeshori's elder sister is married to Chaoren's elder brother Jotin.
The couple have been living at Andro since many years back.
Chaoren also visited his brother and sister-in-law at Andro quite regularly.
Another public meeting was also held at Andro yesterday which was attended by local MLA Th Shyamkumar.
The meeting demanded capital punishment of Chaoren.
It further resolved to launch various modes of intense agitation if the samedemand is not fulfilled within 10 days.
