A high level official team led by chief secretary DS Poonia, camping in the border town Moreh from yesterday, inspected progress work of construction of Integrated Check Post today.
In the visit of the team, DC and SP of Chandel district H Deelep and K.Radhashyam, commanding officer (CO) of CO 31 Assam Rifles Colonel Ravroop Singh, ADC, Moreh, ASP Moreh & SDPO/Immigration Officer, Moreh and other government officials also took part in the inspection.
During the visit, DC Deelip and CO of Assam Rifles Ravroop briefed a brief history of the construction side to the Chief Secretary.
They also told about the problems to be face if the land acquired by the government for the purpose is kept unused for a long time on security point of view and insisted for the early commencement of the ground work.
In reply to a questioned raised by reporters, DS Poonia said that the ICP to be constructed in Moreh is among the 11 ICPs to be constructed at various border areas of the country and he will insist the Union government for the early commencement of the construction work.
He also observed that the setting up of the ICP will help in bringing development in the border town.
Mention may be made that the ICP in Moreh is among the 11 ICPs along the international border of the country and is aimed at boosting the trade and commerce with neighbouring Asian countries.
Union ministry of trade and commerce had already released Rs 70 crore for the development of the check post at the border in 2006.Land acquisition works have been completed.
The team is also likely to inspect the controversial sites along the border where fencing work is in progress between pillar 79 and pillar 81 at Moreh by the Border Road Organisation (BRO).
