Imphal, January 31 2023:
All Manipur Health Services Doctors' Association (AMHSDA) has cautioned of launching intense agitations including total shutdown of all hospitals in the 16 districts of Manipur if the government fails to fulfil the demands of the agitating doctors.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday, Association general secretary Dr Lolee P Mao said that although the government considers the profession of the doctors as 'essential of the essentials', it continues to ignore the suffering and plight of the medical professionals.
As such, AMHSDA had submitted an 8-point charter of demands and began wearing black badges since November last year in protest.
The demands included time bound promotion for staff working in medical department; extending the superannuation age of specialist and non-specialist doctors to 65 years; creation of Director General Post along with director posts for each of Health Services, Family Welfare, Public Health and Medical Education; allowing NPA to take effect from January 1, 2016 and implementation of transfer and posting policy, he conveyed.
Dr Lolee P Mao then said that despite repeated requests including submission of memorandums to the government and the authorities concerned, no action has been taken up till date.
As such, he urged the government to translate the demands into action at the earliest, failing which various forms of agitations would be launched.
