Imphal, March 12 2014 :
Stating that the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) New Scheme of Study to impose elementary Manipuri or Hindi in lieu of Alternative English as a compulsory subject in Class IX from the academic session 2014-15 and thereafter Class X has led students in a dilemma with the new academic session already begun a month ago, the Maram Students' Union/Maralui Karalimei Swijoikang (MKS) has categorically stated that the scheme could not be more ironic to those students whose tribal languages are on the developing processes and yet to be recognized by BSEM.
In a statement, the students' union said the government fails to understand that respective tribal literature committees alone are responsible for developing and production of their own mother tongue text books at their own expenses with a meager financial assistance from TRI, whereas English, Hindi and Manipuri text books are brought out by BSEM and COHSEM at the State expenses and urged the State Government to reconsider the decision of implementation of BSEM New Scheme of Study.
