CSOs visit Kambang ambush site

Following the 'deadly' ambush carried out by some suspected underground cadres on the convoy of 24-Assam Rifles at Kambang Khullen under Tengnoupal Police Station in Chandel district yesterday, a team of civil organizations led by Chandel Naga People's Organization along with media persons visited Kambang Khullen and interacted with the villagers today.
During the visit, the team inspected the ambush site, which is located just few metres away from the village.
Later, the team met and interacted with the villagers.
While interacting with the visiting team, a villager named Ch Morung said that all villagers, who stayed in the forest throughout the night yesterday in fear of reprisal from the Assam Rifles, returned home safely this morning.

The personnel of Assam Rifles did not mete out any kind of torture to the villagers in the aftermath of the ambush, he added.
Talking to media persons, President of Chandel Naga Peoples Organisation (CNPO) Ws Kanral Anal said that the ambush took place very close to Kambang Khullen, almost within the village.
While strongly condemning the organization/outfit which had carried out such deadly attack in a peaceful village, Kanral said that no organization should repeat such incident in the future and disturb peace and tranquility of the village.
He also thanked the Commanding Officer and other personnel of 24-Assam Rifles for not torturing the innocent villagers and restrained themselves after the incident, which left two personnel dead and three others injured.
President of CNPO also appealed to all other security forces to take the exemplary action of the Assam Rifles, who restrained themselves from torturing the innocent villagers after encountering with the UGs.
During the interaction with the villagers, President of Maring Uparap Assembly M.Moses, President of All Tribal Women Organisation (ATWO), Chandel District Lalam Mate and President of Naga Women Union Chandel L.Bliss also strongly condemned the organization concerned for carrying out such attack very close to the village and creating panic to the helpless women and children of the village.
The team was also accompanied by Th.Angdun Maring, Vice-President of Chandel Naga Peoples Organisation, M.Wontimla, President of Rural Peoples Federation, Angkhong Saka, Vice President of Maring Uparap Assembly, K.Marigol, Social and Culture Secretary of United Naga Council, Toshelpha, President of Maring napuiya Yinglam, N.Shongshir, President Bujuur Angchung Puh and L.Givson, Vice-President of Maring Students' Union.
