Imphal, May 09 2013:
Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation, Kakching (JNGVO) said on Thursday it will be a great pleasure indeed to witness settling down by people from different communities of Manipur in Thoubal district so long as these new settlers are aware of the fact that they are living within the jurisdiction of the revenue district.
"We need to maintain harmony and peaceful co-existence in the district.
However, JNGVO thinks that it is an attempt to foment tension among different communities after learning that some people have erected signboards in some areas of the revenue district as if these areas belong to other districts," Naorem Romesh, publicity and information secretary, JNGVO told reporters at the Press Club here.
He affirmed that a district boundary should not be determined by MLAs or NGOs and noted that this must be fixed by the land record and the district map with the Revenue Department.
An interim order of the Gauhati High Court had earlier ruled that all the areas covered by the new villages in the Thoubal should remain under the district, Romesh said.
Romesh also pointed out that a village name or a revenue district name cannot change without proper consent of the law or the Cabinet.
