Imphal, May 09 2013:
It has been over 15 days now that customers of State undertaking mobile network provider, BSNL, here have been reeling under irregular network connectivity.
BSNL, that is relied on by majority of the population here, can only provide service for 5 to 6 hours a day.
When enquired about the situation, the STO, BSNL, Ukhrul said that such a situation has come about becasue generators are not used or activated during the long load shedding hours.
For the operation of the machine, more than 60 kv power generator is required as the station has installed different systems like Wimax, CDMA, GSM, WCDMA, Stm 1& 2 army, bank list, Idea, Ocb, Oclan and landline.
The station at the district headquarters has only 40Kv power generator against the 60kv power generator required.
This has forced the system to halt and run down the system for last two weeks, the STO said.
The matter has been reported to the higher ups for immediate arrangement.
As such, two 75 kv power generators were brought.
However, they could not be used as of now for they need repairing.
The STO said that nothing can be done before repairing the two generators while adding power supply to the district for just about 4-5 hours is not sufficient to charge the 3000 Am volts battery backup.
The dept has been constantly working hard with 8 employees to look after the whole district excluding Kasom Block.
Presently towers at Kamjong and Awungtang were not properly functional.
Sometimes repeater at Litan and Nungbi fails to transmit signal, as the caretakers of the towers could not properly restore the system in time.
