Imphal, May 09 2013:
Taking strong exception against the failure of the Government to conduct an enquiry or investigate the abduction and murder of Seitinlal Kipgen and Tongkhosat Haokip, the JAC against the double murder and the Nongpok Keithelmanbi Area Chingmi-Tammi have called an indefinite general strike all over the State with effect from 4 pm tomorrow.
Speaking to media persons at Kuki Inn here this afternoon, JAC convenor Heinga Kipgen said that Seitinlal Kipgen and Tongkhosat Hao-kip were missing since April 29 .
A missing report was filed at Yairipok police station on May 3 .
On May 4, a joint meeting of 25 surrounding villages of Nongpok Keithel-manbi was held on the disappearance of the duo after which a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister next day.
Even after filing a missing report, the Government/police did not conduct any enquiry or investigated the matter.
Had the Government/police paid little attention to the disappearance of Seitinlal and Tongkhosat, their bodies could have been recovered before they started decomposing, even if they could not have been saved.
Decrying the alleged irresponsible conduct of the Government, Heinga Kipgen questioned if the Government is not responsible for civilians and the poor.
Questioning as to why the Government is sitting idle even after two persons have been found murdered, the convenor went on to question if the two deceased were not citizens of the country.
"Didn't their lives have any value in the eyes of the Government?" he asked.
Reiterating that all kinds of agitation would be launched if the people involved in the double murder are not booked within 48 hours, Heinga Kipgen said that an indefinite general strike would be launched from 4 pm of May 10 all over the State.
JAC co-convenor M Apanbi appealed to all the people and civil organisations of Manipur to support the general strike being called for the sake of justice.
People of Nongpok Keithelmanbi and surrounding areas, irrespective ethnic affiliations, who have been struggling for livelihood without getting any benefit from the Government are perturbed by the double murder, he said.
