'Bishnupur Dist has rich tourism potential but still economically underdeveloped'

Bishnupur District with vast tourist potential and rich tradition still continues to be underdeveloped due to the lack of initiatives by the people, said Commerce and Industries minister Govindas Konthoujam on Friday.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of a community hall constructed under Integrated Housing Urban Development of JNRAM at Bishnupur Municipal Council Complex.
Govindas said that Bishnupur District has tourist spots like Bishnu temple; Indian National Army museum and complex; the famous Loktak Lake; Sendra, Loukoipat and many others.
With a favourable topography, different indigenous communities have also been living together in the district since time immemorial, said the minister and asked the public to ponder on why the district was still lagging behind in race for development.
Govindas further expressed gratitude to the public for electing him as the representative of Bishnupur Assembly Constituency in last five terms.
He also said that he has devoted time to undertake developmental projects in the district.
"Government has been trying to acquire land for construction of a Kendriya Vidyalaya and urban huts in the district and a public library will be handed over to the district's citizens by March next year, said the minister.
He also assured that all the inter village roads in the district will be black-topped soon.
The inauguration of the community hall was attended by former Revenue Minister Khundrakpam Pulinkanta as President and Bishnupur Municipal Council Chairperson L Lolindro as Guest of Honour.
The community hall was constructed with an amount of Rs 80 lakh and consists of one recreation room, one library and a conference hall.
