The All Manipur Democratic Women Association (AMDWA) condoling the passing away of Jyoti Basu, who played a major role in the democratic movement of India, observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul at its office.
Jyoti basu passed away at the age of 96 in a private hospital after prolonged illness on January 17 at a private hospital in Kolkata.In a press release, the AMDWA said that Jyoti Basu's death will leave a big void in the communist movement in India, women's and workers movements, which will be difficult to make up.
The All Manipur Democratic Women Association will fly its flag in half mast in mourning for one week.
The association also extended its condolences to the family members of the bereaved family and said it shared in its grief.
