Foundation stone for construction of Composite Water Supply Scheme under Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resource, Ministry of DoNER was laid today at Motbung in Sadar Hills.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was graced by PHED Minister, TN Haokip; MLA, Haokholet Kipgen; Commissioner of PHED, WL Hangshing and Chief Engineer of PHED, M Imomacha as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
The construction of the water supply scheme at Motbung was approved on July 20, 2009 .
The scheme will be constructed at the cost of Rs 256.45 lakh.
90% of the fund will be Centre's share while 10% will be the state government's share.
The scheme will give benefits to around 13,380 people of Motbung village.
Water from Songkho Lui (Karaopokpi river) will be tapped and the same would be supplied through Gravity Feed System.
Speaking on the occasion, TN Haokip asserted that the government is taking up the scheme keeping in view the hardship faced by Motbung residents.
He urged the locals to preserve and protect the catchment area so as to ensure regular flow of the river water.
The completion of the scheme within a year or a year and half will be ensured.
He said, the locals should not construct latrines, take bath or wash clothes near the treatment plant as and when the construction of it is completed once.
