Imphal, January 18 2010:
Striking employees of Manipur government today petitioned the state Governor to look into the government's refusal to address their demands on adoption of the pay scales recommended by the 6th Central Pay Commission even as the government issued order with regard to the adoption of the same with effect from April 1, 2010. The state Finance Department circulated the order for adoption of new revised pay bands as per the recommendation of the 6th Pay Commission "notionally" from January 1, 2006 with cash payment from April 1, 2010 in total contrast to the demand of payment of DA and TA by the employees effective from April 1, 2004 .

The order issued on Saturday last but made available to the striking employees only today further stated the rate of Dearness Allowance (DA) as on April 1, 2010 of the Central government will also be adopted for the state government employees.
The new pension system of the Central government employees will also be effective notionally from January 1, 2006 .
Employees of the state government are on cease-work strike from Saturday last under the banner of Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of All Manipur Trade Union Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government Employees Organisation (AMGEO).
Today, employees gathered in front of New Secretariat Building, Bapupara in Imphal here and met with the Additional Chief Secretary, LP Golmei and conveyed to him that employees could not accept the government order issued last Saturday.
The Additional Chief Secretary is officiating as the Chief Secretary following the departure of DS Poonia to New Delhi with the Chief Minister for official business.
During the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary was briefed on the stand of the employees to go ahead with the cease-work strike until government fulfilled their 14-point charter of demands, among which is included payment of DA and TA effective from April 1, 2004, according to the employees.
Spokesperson of the employees' body, Chandramani, Secretary General said "only one point out of 14 demands is touched in the order issued by the government.

the order also hurt interest of the employees who are to retired from job before the adoption of the revised pay bands" .
"We will continue our agitation till demands are fulfilled by the government," he reaffirmed.
Mention may be made that, Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh has on the first day of cease-work strike on Saturday appealed to the employees to retract their demands for payment of the revised pay bands with DA and TA effective from 2004 elaborately putting the financial burden to be borne by the government.
