Daily Cases close to 600 mark as TPR spikes, two succumb

Imphal, January 21 2022:
A day after the government announced relaxation on restrictions imposed on commercial establishments and extended the hours for opening of shops in the capital city, a total of 578 persons were found infected with Covid-19 on Friday while the test positivity rate (TPR) spiked to 19.3 per cent against 15.2 per cent the previous day.
The total number of Friday's cases was detected out of 2988 samples tested and confirmed across the state in between 2 pm Thursday and 2 pm Friday while the infections on Thursday totalling 448 positive cases were recorded out of 2944 samples tested.
In the last 24 hours, two persons from Ukhrul and Churachandpur districts also succumbed to the viral disease.
Both the victims had comorbidities and were partially vaccinated.
While all but two of the 16 districts reported multiple positive cases, Kamjong district had the highest TPR at 42.9 per cent as three out of seven samples tested returned positive.
Kangpokpi also recorded sharp rise in TPR with 60 persons out of 174 who went for Covid testing confirmed to be infected.
Of the total cases detected on Friday, 571 including 346 females are from among the general population while central armed police force (CAPF) personnel accounted for seven of the cases.
The new cases were confirmed at JNIMS (222) and other testing centres (356) .
According to official reports, the positive cases are from Bishnupur (21 with TPR of 18.1 per cent), Chandel (7/7.6 per cent), Churachandpur (29/16.1 percent), Imphal East (69/19.6 per cent), Imphal West (331/28.8 per cent), Jiribam (7/2.2 per cent), Kakching (6/13.0 per cent), Kamjong (3/42.9 per cent), Kangpokpi (60/34.5 per cent), Senapati (3/1.1 percent), Tamenglong (4/10.3 percent), Tengnoupal (8/27.6 per cent), Thoubal (24/16.7 per cent) and Ukhrul (9/14.1 percent) .
In the last 24-hours, 100 persons recovered from the infection and discharged from home isolation (64), RIMS (1), JNIMS (7) and CCCs (27) .
Meanwhile, the cumulative number of positive cases reached 1,29,257 with the general population accounting for 1,24,453 of the infections as the number of recovered persons reached 1,24,378 (general population -1.19,909 and CAPF (4469).The number of active cases is 2860 which consist of 2531 from among the general population and 329 CAPF personnel.
The recovery rate further dropped to 96.23 per cent from 96.58 per cent on Thursday.
While informing that all necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the daily update of Covid-19 Control Room said a total of 131 D-type and 20 B- type Oxygen cylmders ere distributed to different health facilities in the last 24 hours.
The number of Covid-19 vaccines administered as on Thursday was 7022 against Wednesday's figure of 7403 .
The cumulative number of vaccinated persons has reached 24,18,8518 out of which 10,28,160 have received the second dose and 11,779, were administered with the precautionary dose.
As per the official report, the total number of cases in different districts are Imphal West (45,612), Imphal East (28,610), Thoubal (96371, Churachandpur (10,614), Kangpokpi (2912), Tamenglong (3310), Bishnupur 9357), Senapati (2326), Ukhrul (3091), Kakching (6543), Chandel (2494), Noney (1106), Tengnoupal (1101), Jiribam (1079), Kamjong (1000) and Pherzawl.
Fatality counts in different distrititsare Imphal West (677), Imphal East (484), Thoubal (179), Churachandpur (164), Kangpokpi (64), Tamenglong (14), Bishnupur (195), Senapati (10), Ukhrul (46), Kakching (116), Chandel (41), Noney (4), Tengnoupal (13), Jiribam (7), Kamjong (5) and Pherzawl (0) .
