Imphal, December 27 2018:
Reasoning that the arrest and detention of Kishorchandra Wangkhem for his Facebook post is irrational and uncalled for, the Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Shinpanglup (AIMS) has demanded the Government to release the individual immediately.
A press release issued by the president of AIMS today mentioned that the association vehemently condemns the arrest of Kishorchandra for his Facebook post which ridiculed and used offensive words regarding the organisation of the birth anniversary of Jhansi Rani in Manipur and added that the move of the State Government is a blatant disregard for human rights.
AIMS conveyed that India is made up of diverse people and communities/castes who have their own unique histories, cultures, traditions and religions.
India is not only for those who speak Hindi and follow Hindu religion, it explained.
AIMS continued that Kishorchandra's words/statements did not contain anything which could cause harm to the country and added that there is no wrong in expressing love for Manipur.
Arresting/detaining Kishorchandra under NSA is bereft of any reasoning, AIMS alleged.
Questioning if it is justified to manipulate the history of Manipur in an attempt to create a common history for India, AIMS reasoned that there is no law which prevents the people from honouring their forefathers who scarified for their motherland.
AIMS further explained that there is no problem in organising any events honouring the brave patriots in their respective places but to celebrate or observe such events in another place is akin to insulting the forefathers and patriots of the other area and trying to destroy the history of the said area.
Claiming that the world is now beginning to question if India is truly a democracy, AIMS explained that Article 19 (1) of the Indian Constitution empowers the people with right to freedom of speech and expression while Article 20 (1) and (2) of the Constitution make it clear that an individual cannot be arrested until and unless he or she breaks the law or does anything against the law.
As such, it is irrational and illogical to detain Kishorchandra under NSA, AIMS claimed demanding the Government to release him immediately.
