'Jiribam still has no SBI branch, people visit Assam for bank businesses'

When Imphal and some other districts have numerous branches of State Bank of India, people in Jiribam have to go to Assam to visit the bank and conduct their businesses, said Peace and Development Association, Jiribam (PADAJ) secretary Y Ashok Kumar Singh during a press meet held at the campus of Institute for Children with Disability (ICD), Jiribam, this evening.
Highlighting the lack of various offices and infrastructure required for daily business transaction in the newly formed district, Y Ashok said that the people of Jiribam are yet to get the full benefit of the district being a full fledged revenue district.
About the need of SBI and other bank institutions in the district, Ashok said that people have to travel to neighbouring Assam for their bank businesses (SBI) and appealed the State Government and authorities concerned to open up SBI bank branches at the earliest and ease the inconveniences of the people.
Jiribam has a branch of United Bank of India, he said.
Ashok alleged that Tourism and Transport Department offices in the district are there only for namesake.
He alleged that the Transport office in Chandrapur is non functioning.
He further urged the State Government and authorities concerned to revive the Industrial Training Institute in Kadamtala.
Former Chief Minister Nipamacha had laid the foundation stone to construct one welcome gate at Jiribam during his tenure in 1996.But the work is still incomplete even after many years, he said and urged the Government to complete the construction of the gate at the earliest.
Ashok also sought the attention of the Government and department concerned regarding the deteriorating condition of the DC road.
He also urged the State Government to install street lamps from Gularthol to Babupara, Jiribam.
Maintaining that several CSOs and public of Jiribam have submitted a 7 points memorandum to the Chief Minister highlighting the various issues, Ashok on behalf of PADAJ expressed hope that the Government will pay heed to the plight of the public.
