The Loukons at Tumukhong Awang Leikai and Nungaipokpi, where Chief Minister N Biren Singh planted seeds as a part of the Rabi Crop campaign on December2, were inspected by an official team led by Agriculture Director Ph Rajendra today.
The team properly inspected the Rabi crops consisting of peas, mustard and maize, which were planted as a part of the event which was jointly organised by Irabot Foundation Manipur and Khongjai Chingkhong Loukon Farmers Interest Group, under the sponsbrship of Department of Agriculture.
Speaking to media persons, the Agriculture Director said that the Department has made all necessary preparations to ensure that the farmers have ample seeds or plants to grow and cultivate so that their fields do not remain unused after harvest of main crops like paddy/rice.
He then assured to provide every possible support to other farmer interest groups located in various districts of the State as well.
Pointing out that the practice will improve the socio-economic conditions of the farmers, Rajendra said that the Department has also made arrangements to provide water pumps for irrigation purposes.
He also explained that the State Government is planning to ensure that the farmers are able to be self reliant when it comes to maize production, as it is quite important in making feeds for livestock and fishes.
Even the Fishery Dept has assured to buy the feed or maize from the State's farmers, he added.
The Agriculture Director urged the people to plant Rabi crops at areas which face lack of proper irrigation.
Appealing the farmers to take the benefits and schemes provided by the Department, he urged the farmers to make the State self reliant.
