Thoubal, December 27 2018:
Lilong Development Forum (LDF) has appealed the State Government to look into the river dredging works in Lilong AC.
Urging the authorities concerned and Government to complete the dredging works before rainy season, LDF publicity secretary Raja Thongkhongmayum, during an inspection at the worksites in Lilong, said that the work at many places are condemnable.
"Waste from the dredging works are unhygienically and improperly disposed along the raodsides causing immense disturbances and grievances to the people," he said.
"The dredging work is laudable but the way they managed the waste is condemnable.
The dusts from the waste along the roadside are causing pollution.
Obstacles such as roots of bamboos and trees have been improperly disposed/deposited along the roadsides and are posing as a threat to commuters causing accidents," he said.
Citing 'improper conduct' of the work at many places, he questioned if the dredging of the river bed is enough to avoid flood at all.
Appealing the authorities concerned to intimate whether the dredging work is over or abandoned in the constituency, he urged the Government and authorities concerned to take steps and properly dispose off the garbage and waste along the raodsides and complete dredging works before rainy season.
