Former Chief Minister, Radhabinod Koijam has exhorted the important role of womenfolk in keeping the Imphal city neat and clean.
Speaking as chief guest at an awareness campaign at Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai to mark the beginning of the field work of the Zero Garbage Campaign, the former chief minister and local MLA of Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency said that in keeping the city neat and clean, womenfolk as a great role to take.
A scheme which gives incentive to the women taking keen interest in cleaning works is a must so that they could be encouraged.
If the Imphal Municipality has no provision to provide such incentive, he will give to the women of his constituency from his own pocket, the chief guest announced.
He also appealed to the womenfolk of his constituency to take part in the campaign and share their effort in keeping their respective locality neat and clean.
Special administrator of the IMC, N Geetkumar who also talked on the occasion reminded that the Imphal city is the mirror of the state and also hub of living earning centre of all sections of the people.
So, there is the need of keeping the city neat and clean.
Imphal city is the 109th city out of 423 cities of the country.
State government considering the need of keeping the city neat and clean as taken up the Zero Garbage Campaign so that the city where the converging points of all sections of people of the state as well as from outside the state is free from all sort of dirt.
The campaign to be continued for two months across the areas cover by the IMC and it is to be conducted in collaboration with the local clubs and other NGOs of the respective areas.
