Imphal, August 24 2010:
Demanding transfer of Chakpikarong sub-division SDO Lalramsang Infimate, people of Chakpikarong took out a protest rally at Chandel district headquarters today.
At the end of the rally, a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister through the Chandel ADC.
The protest rally which started from the Chandel mini-indoor stadium was organised under the joint aegis of the Anal Naga Students' Union, Chiefs' Association Chakpikarong and the Anal Women Union.
As the rally approached gate of the DC office, the protesters were blocked by police there.
Leaders of the rally wanted to meet the DC and submit a memorandum for further conveyance to the Chief Minister but they were told by the police men that the DC was out of station.
Subsequently, the protesters met Chandel ADC L Nabakishore who was in charge of the Chandel DC and submitted a memorandum.
After submitting the memorandum, the protesters turned back to Chandel mini-indoor stadium.
All along the course of the rally, the protesters carried placards and banners which read as "SDO office not for self-business", "Public money is not SDO's purse", "No place for communal person", "No transfer, no peace" etc.
The memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister through the ADC accused SDO Lalramsang Infimate of staying away from his office most of the time in addition to the failure to utilise/implement funds and schemes in time.
Since Lalramsang took over as Chakpikarong SDO, neither Independence Day nor Republic Day in the sub-division since last year.
It went on allege that the SDO deducted 3 per cent for his private purse from the development funds sanctioned in December 2009 including the MGNREGS funds.
Lalramsang was also involved in selling certificates in shops at Rs 20 per piece which otherwise should be issued in his office.
The failure of data collection work for 2011 census in Chakpikarong is a glaring example of the SDO's inefficiency and lack of coordination among his subordinate staff, added the memorandum.
