The Director General of Foreign Trade has reportedly assured the Manipur Industrial Development Corporation Limited of providing necessary authorisation letter for import of 30,000 metric tonne of rice from Myanmar within the stipulated period.
Sources in the Manipur Industrial Development Corporation Limited here said that the Principal Secretary (Commerce and Industries) of the State is currently at New Delhi to put forward the State's need to the Director General of Foreign Trade for issuing the required authorisation letter.
The authorisation letter is likely to be issued within the next couple of days, sources said, adding that after this, the import license against the authorisation letter has to be claimed from the Joint Director General of Foreign Trade stationed at Guwahati.
Sources further said that 30,000 metric tonne of rice is to be imported from Myanmar to Manipur under the provisions of Foreign Trade Policy, 20092014.So far, around four-five firms have already responded for transportation of the imported rice through Manipur Industrial Development Corporation and the Chambers of Commerce would be looking into whether these firms have their counterparts in Myanmar or not.
