One non-local labourer has been shot dead by unidentified armed persons at Wahengbam Leikai here this evening.
Two unidentified persons came to Wahengbam Leikai and shot a non-local man near Imphal LPG gas agency at about 7.30 pm, said a police source.
The non-local man identified as Mohan Sahu (45) from Lewa village of Khagaria district, Bihar was hit by a bullet on the right side of chest.
Even as he was immediately rushed to RIMS, he succumbed to his injuries sometime later.
Mohan Sahu was a porter staying in a rented room at Wahengbam Leikai.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters who are in Bihar.
It is reported that Mohan Sahu had been living at Imphal working as a porter for the last 14/15 years.
Four/five other non-local labourers who stayed together with Mohan Sahu were away at the market to buy ration for dinner when Mohan Sahu was fetching water from a nearby water pump.
As he was returning to his room, Mohan Sahu was accosted by two unidentified persons who shot him the next moment.
Following the incident, Imphal West Police have taken up extra security measures.
A case has also been registered at Imphal police station and due investigation launched into the incident.
