The Indian Medical Association, Manipur Branch today organized AMAMECON 2010 at the complex of the association at Lamphelpat, Imphal.
Chief Secretary DS Poonia graced the occasion as chief guest.
President, Indian Medical Association, Manipur Branch, Dr Kh Palin was the function's president.
Commissioner, Relief and Disaster Management, Suhel Akhtar and Mission Director, NRHM Project Director, MACS PK Jha attended as guests of honour.
Members of IMA, Dr Jodhachandra and Dr Biona Kharubon were honoured by gifts as part of the programme.
In a speech, DS Poonia said that the doctors of Manipur are as good as the doctors in the other states of India.
They are doctors held in esteem but they should not shy away when the need to go to the hills or remote areas arises.
They should have the courage to face any kinds of difficulties.
He further stressed on the need of involvement of the people for development in health care and education.
He reminded that IAS officers deputed in the state are only on a temporary basis.
They will come and go.
He assured to try his best to provide grant-in-aid from the government for the construction of an IMA building.
PK Jha said that there are many vacant posts of doctors in the state under the National Rural Health Mission.
But doctors are not willing to work in the remote areas of the state.
Doctors refuse to come to the ART link centres in the remote areas of the state.
He felt that the Union and state governments should take up initiatives regarding the matter.
Dr Kh Palin said that India needs 1.3 million doctors and 1.8 million nurses to reach international levels.
For this India needs to adopt Public Private Partnership (PPP) model in the states.
