Imphal, December 11 2010:
Release of rice under Mid-Day meal for the quarters ended October, November and December is likely to be stalled as the Food Corporation of India (FCI) has given instruction against releasing rice for other welfare schemes with exception to that of Public Distribution System (PDS) .
Sources in the State Education Department said that the FCI has communicated its inability to release the rice quota for various flagship programmes of the Government of India including that of Mid-day meal following some directives from the Supreme Court.
In a letter send from Manager (Commercial ) of FCI based at Dimapur on December 3, it was stated that as priority is to be given PDS, no rice quota for other flagship programmes including Mid-day Meal scheme would not be released.
Informing that adequate quota of rice has not been able to lift due to law and order problem, the source pointed out that in such a situation, FCI too has not been able to provide the required rice quota under PDS.
