While a cadre of an insurgent group reportedly left the outfit and surrendered to Assam Rifles authorities, security forces claimed to have rounded up five activists of different armed groups in the last 48 hours.
A cadre of the proscribed KYKL who deserted the outfit's camp near Onziya surrendered before the 12 Assam Rifles of 10 sector at Aishi village in Ukhrul district on December 10 along with arms and ammunition, said a PRO IGAR (S) release.
Identifying the surrenderee as Chongtham Hemba Meitei s/o Ch Ibose Meitei of YKPI, sangur Khunou, the release listed one Weblay revolver and three lives rounds of 9 mm as items handed over by the individual.
On the otherhand, troops of 23 Assam Rifles and 39 AR launched search operation in general areas Chingmeirong and Pangei in the early hours of December 11 during which one activist each of the MNRF and PLA outfits were arrested, the release informed.
The MNRF activist has been identified as Ashok Shinglai (34) s/o Nganligphung Shinglai of Kasom Khullen and the PLA activist as Usam Romon alias Nanao alias Renjit (35) s/o Shamungou Singh of Pangei bazar.
Both have been handed over to Porompat police station.
Meanwhile, Imphal west district police commandos have reportedly arrested a 'Project Nominee' of PREPAK from Thangal Bazar area at around 4.10 pm of December 10 .
According to a statement issued by SSP (IW) the arrested person namely Takhellambam Nepolian alias Naocha s/o T Tomcha Singh of Keirao Lamdung Makha Leikai disclosed that he was assigned to extort money from Govt/private schools, Govt Deptts under the instruction of one Takhellambam Ibomcha alias England (24) of PREPAK.
He (Nepolian) further disclosed of involvement in the kidnapping of one Dolan for which a case was registered at Singjamei police station, it added.
In yet another incident, troops of 33 Assam Rifles of Loktak Brigade under Red Shield Division arrested two overground workers of the KCP (MC) group from Wangoo Parking today.
A PIB (DW) release identified the arrested duo as Yumnam Ibocha Singh (51) s/o (L) Leelamani Singh of Wangoo Sadangkhong and Budha Singh (30) s/o Joychandra Singh of Ithai, also in Bishnupur district.
Both the arrested persons reportedly confessed their involvement in extortion related activities in Bishnupur district areas.Informing that the operation was carried out based on specific information regarding presence of overground workers and extortion activities carried out by them at Wangoo and surrounding areas, the PIB (DW) release also said both have been handed over to Kumbi police station.
