Covid claims former IGP Dr Ibocha

Imphal, August 08 2021:
State Information Commissioner Dr Soibam Ibocha, who was also retired IPS officer, passed away on Sunday due to post-Covid complications.
On his demise, chief minister N Biren expressed deep condolences and shared the grief of the bereaved family.
In his condolence message, the CM remembered Dr Ibocha as a true gentleman, an academician and a sports enthusiast who worked for the betterment of the society.
IPR minister Thongam Biswajit also extended his condolence and said that it is a great loss for the state.
While recalling the past life and deeds of Dr Ibocha, the minister said he was a man of action and prayed that his soul rest in peace and comfort the bereaved family.
Dr Ibocha passed away on Sunday at RIMS Hospital around 2:58 pm.
He was a resident of Soibam Leikai, Imphal East.
He was appointed as the state information commissioner on October 22,2018.Before joining the Manipur Police Service, he worked as a lecturer at Maharaja Bodhchandra College from 1979 to 1983.He joined the Manipur Police Service in 1983 and retired as Inspector General of Police (IGP) in 2018.During his career in the Police department, he had served as Superintendent of Police of Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnpur, Churachandpur and Senapati districts.
He got his PhD in community policing.
He was also recipient of the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service, Sahitya Akademi translation prize, State Literature Award, State Kala Akademi award, Sharda Translation Award and Akoijam Chaoton & RK Muktasana Literature Award.
He was also the president of Rugby Football, Manipur and was also senior vice president of Amateur Rugby Federation of India.
The Manipur Information Commission has convened a condolence meeting at its office premises in Secretariat North Block on Monday, 11.30 am .
