Imphal, August 08 2021:
The All India Forward Bloc (AIFB), Manipur State Committee has urged the State Government to review the preventive measures taken up to arrest the spread of coronavirus in Manipur.
In a statement, the Bloc said that the second wave of situation of COVID-19 which is largely driven by Delta variant is on the wane in many other States, but still grim in Manipur.
Asserting that there seem to be lapses in the measures of the Government as cases continue to hover above 10 percent despite imposition of a series of restrictions since April 29 last, the AIFB State committee highlighted that non adherence to standard operating procedure (SOPs), allowing home treatment to those who don't have basic amenities such as separate rooms, bathrooms etc and engagement of staff who don't have proper know-how of COVID-19 and pandemic for attending to Covid patients are among the few lapses.
Lack of communication and coordinated efforts among the Government machinery, and implementation of technical and strategic measures to contain the coronavirus only after the situation worsens are also the probable causes of surge in Covid cases in Manipur, it added.
The Bloc further said that the rate of tracing, testing and treatment, which are imperative to break the chain of coronavirus, is regrettable.
Continuing that the rate of Covid testing is considerably low as compared to the rate of infections, the Bloc appealed to the State Government to do the needful to flatten the curve and at the same time prevent a third wave of the pandemic.
The Forward Bloc further appealed to the Government to roll out vaccination drives for those below 18 years and provide economic packages to people in priority list (BPL) .
