Imphal, September 06 2022:
Volunteers of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) on Tuesday shut down the office of SCERT located at Lamphelpat, here, denouncing non-appointment of director of the institute for the last 17 months.
Speaking in this regard, DESAM secretary general Mayengbam Somorjit Luwang expressed strong resentment that in-spite of being well aware that SCERT is an important department, the government has failed to appoint its director for the last 17 months.
He recalled that the students' body has been exerting pressure for appointment of the director and the government too assured to address the matter.
As the government has failed to translate its assurance into action, DESAM decided to lock and seal the office of SCERT, he maintained.
"How could a department be maintained without a director?" Somorjit questioned, while adding that non-appointment of the director for such protracted time smacks of negligence of the government.
The government should appoint the director within two days, or else there is no need for such a department, he asserted.
Regarding the declaration of result of the entrance test for admission to Diploma in Elementary Education (D.E1.ED) at DIET centres under SCERT Manipur, Somorjit Luwang reiterated that declaration of the selection list without consolidated list with marks obtained by the students will not be accepted.
Moreover, any admission process will be invalid, he made it clear.
