Imphal, September 06 2022:
The All Manipur Nupi Marup today took out a protest rally demanding an immediate stop to all forms of crimes against women.
The protest rally was flagged off from Irabot Bhavan here where a public meeting was also held on rising cases of crimes against women, according to a statement dispatched to press by All Manipur Nupi Marup secretary L Sumatibala.
Later, a memorandum addressed to President Droupadi Murmu was submitted to Governor La Ganesan.
On August 15, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was giving a speech about empowering women safeguarding their rights, the world watched in horror as the State of Gujarat released 10 criminals who were convicted of rape and genocidal murder.

Their crimes were found to be so heinous that the Courts had sentenced them to imprisonment till death, the memorandum said.
It said, "It is with horror that we see men who murdered 14 members of a family including aged women and three year-old child, gangraped women and convicted by Courts for heinous crime against humanity being granted remission from punishment.
Not only were the men given a pardon, they were worshipped as heroes with garlands, tilak and sweets" .
Their release sent a message to all women that in this country it is okay for 'Sanskari Brahmins' to rape and murder pregnant women, children, old women and mutilate dead bodies, the All Manipur Nupi Marup remarked.
As a result of this action of the Government of Gujarat, the world is questioning the intentions of India to safeguard its women.
Today it is Muslim women whose rape and murder is being celebrated, tomorrow it would be women from another case or religion, said the memorandum.
It asserted, "We need to step up and stop this social rot from destroying our society.
We need you to intervene and raise the issue of security of women at the level of the head of the State" .
Through their memorandum, the All Manipur Nupi Marup further urged the Governor to intervene on the arrest of human rights activist Teesta Setalvad.
The unilateral decision of the Government of Gujarat to penalise human rights defenders by arresting them on abstract grounds of attempting to mislead witnesses against the State is an unprecedented travesty of justice, it decried.
Teesta has worked for decades with the marginalised section and women to help them get their constitutional rights.
She worked tirelessly collecting evidence that the rapes and murders in Gujarat in 2002 were not done by a faceless mob.
She was able to prove that the criminals who committed the horrific acts of genocide had identities and protection from political and administrative apparatus of the State, according to the memorandum.
Teesta's aim was to protect the social and democratic rights of the weak in the State of Gujarat.
Ironically, the State has put her behind bars and released those who committed heinous crimes.
This travesty of justice and trampling of human rights needs to be checked.
It then urged Droupadi Murmu to use the office of the President to seek out the truth and defend the constitutional rights of the marginalised and weak.
The All Manipur Nupi urged the President to send the 11 convicts who committed genocide and gangraped Bilkis Bano's family back to prison.
In Manipur, women are in turmoil due to various crimes and atrocities.
Even though hundreds of women had been raped and killed, conviction rate is very low, it pointed out before seeking the President's intervention into the same issue.
