Imphal, September 06 2022:
Informing that some outsiders, who had entered the state with ILP permits, were found possessing job cards and Scheduled Tribe (ST) cards, in parts of Chandel district, Indigenous People's Forum (IPF) Manipur president Ashang Kasar has urged the government to look into the matter.
Speaking at a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here on Tuesday, Ashang Kasar confided that after receiving reports of presence of some outsiders in Chandel possessing job cards of the state, volunteers of IPF Manipur and Chandel Social Workers & Activists investigated and found 71 outsiders possessing job cards and ST cards.
The outsiders conveyed that they receive no benefits from the card but were only possessing them.
As such, it is up to the authority concerned to look into what benefits they have received with the cards till date, he said, while remark ing that it would not be wrong to assume that such corrupt activities are being carried out in other districts as well.
Ashang continued that the entire matter not only smacks of corruption but is also detrimental to the welfare of indigenous people.
Thus, he urged the government to look into the matter and award strict punishment to the people responsible.
