Imphal, January 29 2014:
With just few months left for the 16th Lok Sabha Election, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has strictly instructed the State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to monitor paid news during Lok Sabha election campaign in the State.
This was informed to media persons by State CEO O Nabakishore during an interaction at DIPR Complex here today.
He further said that the state election officials would strictly follow the instructions of ECI and closely monitor the media if there is any case of paid news in connection with the election campaign of political parties.
CEO also stated that about 150 companies of central security forces would be required if the 16th Lok Sabha Election is held in a single phase, or else 75 companies would be needed if the election is held in two phases in the State.
A training programme of DCs, SPs and other officials of all districts of the State would be organized as a part of poll preparation.
Moreover, the DCs have been asked to submit election plan survey reports within a short time, he noted.
Nabakishore further appealed to all to submit Form-6 to the SDOs concerned if their names have been deleted wrongly from the electoral roll or they need any rectification.
The State Election Office would also take up measures to issue newly designed Elector's Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to the voters.
The authorities would try to improve communication networks to ensure smooth conduct of the Lok Sabha Election in remote areas of the State.
All EVMs to be used in the election have also been kept ready after thorough checking, the CEO noted.
