Students, parents protest inadequacies

Students of Poiroukhongjin Government High School along with their parents staged a protest demonstration in the school campus on Thursday demanding redressal of the problem of acute shortage of teachers and infrastructural in the school.
During the protest, students and parents drew immediate attention of authority concerned regarding their demands particularly immediate posting of requisite teachers in the school which has high enrolment.
A student told media persons on the sidelines of the protest that the school has many students but has only 13 teachers at present against the requisite 30 teachers.
Due to lack of primary teachers as well as for Hindi, Science and Arts subjects, students are facing difficulty in learning and attending classes; the student said and urged authority concerned to depute requisite teachers at the earliest.
Parents of some-students also told media persons that they send their children to government school as provision of providing free textbooks and uniform help them ft nancially at least to some extent.
After COVID-19 pandemic completely halted education activities for nearly two years, the school was reopened recently but acute shortage of teachers has caused immense difficulty to students, they said, adding that the school currently has only 14 teachers and they are running the school with the help of only two grade-IV staff against the requisite number of more than 39 staff.
They urged authority concerned to look into the matter and send requisite number of teachers to the school at the earliest.
Mention may be made here that school authority had conveyed to a team surveying School Fagathansi Mission on June 28, 2021 about the need for concrete fencing of school campus, immediate posting of requisite teachers and filling up school infrastructures but nothing have been materialised till date.
