Chadambaram assures Nagas' say on Sadar Hills

The Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has assured a delegation of the United Naga Council (UNC) that the Manipur Government will not take any unilateral decision without consulting the Nagas on upgradation of Sadar Hills to a full-fledged district, a press release of UNC stated.
The Home Minister referred to the commitment of Chief Minister O Ibobi to this effect in a meeting at Senapati during his visit here in Manipur recently and that he was even prepared to put it in writing.
A delegation of the United Naga Council(UNC), including the President and the General Secretary called on P.Chidambaram, at his Delhi office in North Block on the evening of the November 22 and apprised him of the concerns of the Naga people on the issue of Sadar Hills upgradation.
Informing of the receipt of an official communication on the above meeting with the Union Home Minister from the MHA as also an appeal to lift the economic blockade on the November 24, UNC stated that the matter will be taken up in the Emergency Presidential Council meeting on November 28 .
The meeting will be held at Tamenglong headquarters soon after the public rally on Alternative Arrangement is carried out, stated the press release.
It may be recalled that the UNC had called for an economic blockade on both the lifelines of Manipur starting from August 21 against the creation of Sadar Hill district.
