Imphal, November 19 2018:
Coming out strongly against the 'manhandled' charge levelled by the secretary of the Thadou Students' Association, Michael Lamjathang Haokip, the Assam Rifles today said that the vehicles check post at Tengnoupal is established primarily to check and seize any drugs and other illegal products, namely arms, gold, wildlife and forest products.
Stating that the allegations of Michael Lamjathang Haokip are baseless and discouraging, PRO of Assam Rifles in a statement said that oji November 12 at around 4.30 pm, Haokip reached the vehicle check post in his vehicle and without giving due respect and empathizing with the plight of the locals and tourists waiting for their turns to get checked, jumped the checking line, ignoring the discomfort being caused to senior citizens, ladies and children waiting in queue and argued with the Assam Rifles soldiers on duty to give him priority, as he is the secretary of TSA.
The soldiers on duty conveyed that other persons are waiting in queue since long hence he should wait for a while.
Showing his high headedness and throwing his weight around, Haokip refused to do so and told the non-English speaking soldier to converse in English.
The soldier understanding his request called the English speaking soldier to understand and resolve Haokip's problem.
However, Haokip was adamant on being given priority, claimed the statement and added that Haokip took the refusal to give him priority to heart and on November 13, met the Commandant 12 Assam Rifles with his complaint in the presence of SP Tengnoupal and after due verification was apprised of no wrong doing by the soldier on duty.
