Abducted bank manager rescued

After two days in captivity, State Bank of India (SBI) Branch Manager, Ampati Branch, Arvind Kumar was rescued by Meghalaya Police personnel at about 8 am Wednesday from Milliem village near Damalgre, which is about 18 kms from Tura in Garo Hills, Meghalaya.
Three suspected militants abducted Arvind Kumar from Garobadha bridge at gunpoint, while he was on his way to Ampati along with his driver who was later released on the same day.
After hearing about the abduction, a massive police operation was launched in the Garobadha � Rangsakona area in South West and West Garo Hills districts to find Kumar.
Carrying on with this manhunt, a five member police team set off from Tura on Wednesday morning and came across a group of armed miscreants who had Kumar in tow.
"There was heavy exchange of fire between police and the militants, following which the militants escaped, leaving behind Kumar," said West Garo hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Mukesh Singh.
Elated by the news of the rescue, the Chief General Manager (CGM) of the Circle Sanjay Kumar Magoo has profoundly thanked the Governor of Meghalaya, the Chief Minister, the Home Minister, the Chief Secretary, the DGP of Meghalaya and the entire Police force of both the districts involved in the operation for Arvind Kumar's quick and safe rescue.
The CGM reiterates that notwithstanding the hazards faced by the employees of the Bank in serving the common people in the region, it will remain forever committed to their development through its dedicated service to its esteemed customers.
Arvind Kumar's brother Ujjual Anand has also expressed his relief on hearing the news of the safe rescue and thanked the police.
