Imphal, June 18 2014:
Every year on June 18, people from different parts of the State and walks of life head to Kekrupat to offer floral tributes and pay homage to the departed souls of 18 persons who sacrificed their lives during the June 18, 2001 uprising, but for Naoroibam Sobita, who lost one of her legs in police firing on that unforgettable day, the June 18 observance brings tears in her eyes as she could not go and offer floral tributes like others because of her deteriorating health.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Sobita, who is also a diabetes patient, said that her health is deteriorating day by day and she is now feels that this year's June 18 observance is going to be the last for her.

She said that because of her health condition, she has not been able to go to Kekrupat to pay her homage to the martyrs of June 18 uprising since last year.
Sobita said that no substantial help has been extended from the side of the government so far except for some financial assistance received for medical treatment with the help of an employee of the Social Welfare Department.
Sobita was hospitalized on April 7 last after her health deteriorated and discharged from the hospital later on June 21 but still her health is not showing any improvement.
She had to administer four injections a day apart from Insulin which are becoming a costly arrangement for her.
Considering her poor health and lack of financial and other logistical support, Sobita has now decided to spend her remaining days in some destitute home as the residential quarter of Home Guard where she is staying presently will also be evicted by the government sooner or later.
"Though I have not decided to which destitute home I should go, I think this would a better arrangement for me", Sobita said.
