PM understands hardships of women: Srinivasan

BJP Mahila Morcha national president Vanathi Srinivasan convened an executive meeting of BJP Mahila Morcha state office bearers', executive members and district along with Mandal presidents and general secretaries at party's Nityaipat Chuthek office here on Wednesday.
The meeting chaired by Vanathi Srinivasan was also attended by BJMM Manipur Pradesh, president L Loteeka Leima, Manipur in-charge Sumitra Laloo and BJP state general secretary P Premananda Meetei.
Vanathi Srinivasan, in her speech, lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for constantly empowering women and launching various welfare schemes for the benefit of women.
She asserted that Narendra Modi is such a Prime Minister who not only thinks for the welfare of women but understands the hardships faced by them on a daily basis as he himself experienced his mother's struggle.
Citing the example of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Vanathi stated that it is a scheme which gives life to the dream of women of having a proper home.
With regard to the upcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly election, Vanathi Srinivasan stated that giving ticket to women candidates is easy but winning the election is the real challenge and hence all intending women candidates should work hard to become a 'winnable' candidate.
L Loteeka Leima, Sumitra Laloo and P Premananda also addressed the gathering.
Later, an interactive session between Vanathi Srinivasan and various women CSO leaders and women sports personalities of Manipur was held at Classic Hotel, North AOC.
During the interaction programme, CSO leaders put forth problems faced by them including the need for increment of widow pension, reservation for widow while applying for government posts, etc.
The representatives of Ima Keithel were asked to submit a MoU with regard to granting of license to set up food stalls at Ima Keithel (Women Market).
Vanathi assured the women leaders that all possible help will be extended to them and also promised to submit the MoU to the chief minister N Biren.
The interaction programme was attended by L Loteeka Leima and Sumitra Laloo along with state office bearers of BJMM Manipur Pradesh.
Sinai Lup president Ibethoi, renowned sportsperson Oinam Bembem, Surjabala and other veteran athletes also attended the meet.
