SVEEP awareness program held

An awareness programme on 'Right and importance of participation of People with disabilities in upcoming election' was held on November 16 at Chandapur Mayai Leikai Bamol Mandop in Bishnupur.
Speaking at the programme, Dr Sapam Jasowanta Singh, chairman HD Foundation, appealed all the BLOs to help people with disabilities who have attend the age of 18 years register for election in order to exercise their voting rights.
He also advised all the BLOs to clearly state and marked the types of disabilities the person has while registering.
Dr Sapam Jasowanta Singh also expressed confidence that the Election Commission will make polling booths disable friendly and put necessary set-ups in place.

Md Yunus Khan, president State Platform of Disabled People's Organisation Manipur said we should understand that people with disabilities plays an important role in the society.
He added that the disabled and their families have a major role in ensuring that the disabled person gets all the benefits under various schemes launched by the State and the Central Governments.
He added that a handful of people have been taking donations from the public in the name of disabled people, which is very unfortunate and it cast a poor image of the disabled as beggar.
This should be stopped, he added.
Md Yunus Khan deliberated on the need to enroll all the disabled individuals in the electoral roll as only 8,000 people under this tag are registered in the electoral roll till date.
He added Social Welfare Department had been providing UDID registration facilities to ease certificate availing process to disabled at Chandapur Mayai Leikai Bamol Mandop.
