ZUF releases kidnapped railway workers

Imphal, February 03 2015:
The two railway workers engaged by Coastal Projects Limited who were reportedly kidnapped from near a quarry site at Nungkao Part III village in Tamenglong district on January 19 last by cadres of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) along with a Bolero Jeep for a monetary demand of Rs 1 crore have been released on Tuesday morning.
The two workers who were set free after 15 days in captivity were identified as Ramjit Thakur (36) from Jharkhand and Ranjul Haque (28) from Cachar, Assam.
Police sources said Ranjit Thakur was driving a black-color Bolero Jeep bearing registration no SK01-2852 when armed cadres of ZUF forcibly stopped the vehicle and kidnapped him along with Ranjul Haque from near a quarry site at Nungkao Part III village.
Subsequently, the outfit served a monetary demand of Rs 1 crore, the sources added.
The duo was released in a place bordering Longchai village and Gaiphulai village under Tousem sub-division on Tuesday morning around 3 .
