Jiribam (Imphal East), February 03 2015:
With frequent monetary demands, kidnapping of labourers engaged in Jiri-Tupul railway line construction work and bomb blasts suspected to have been carried out by hill-based underground groups, assigned private company workers are under constant fear, reports Jiri News Network.
On January 19, Bolero driver Raju and supervisor Ranjit Kapoor were reportedly abducted from Nungkao, Tamenglong district by unidentified individual(s) and were released yesterday.
A worker on condition of anonymity said, "Frequent kidnapping and life threats by unidentified groups are frightening us constantly.
We now have no interest to continue the construction work.
It is the weakness of the security force who have been escorting us that such unwanted incidents keep happening time and again" .
He said that revealing information and commenting on the problems faced by the workers to media persons may endanger their lives more.
He added that the Government of Manipur should take the problems faced by the workers seriously and take up safety measures to ensure the construction work is being carried out without any difficulty.
